Programs

Here you'll find programs that run similar to the big name programs like Adobe's Photoshop, Illustrator and Autodesk's Maya and 3DS Max, But these programs are free. This will allow you to continue to learn different techniques on your own time.

Not you will continue to learn Adobe Programs in class, but many of the techniques can be transferred from program to program. You will; however, have to spend your own time and find your own resources on these programs to learn them, or just experiment with them to learn them.

As I find more programs, I will list them.

Adobe CS2
This is an old version but a free version of the Adobe Creative Suite 2. Most the tools from what we use in class will be there and just about everything else will work exactly the same. You will need an adobe account to download this. They are free to make.

GIMP
Gimp is an open source free alternative to photoshop. Many of the photo editing tools may not be present, but it is mostly for drawing, painting and minor photo manipulation. Their website has a few text and video tutorials on it to get you started.
(To import from GIMP to Photoshop. Save files as an .TIFF with Layers.)

InkScape
Inkscape is much like Adobe Illustrator. It works in Vectors and all the graphics created in the program are scalable. Their website has a few text and video tutorials on it to get you started.
(Note: Save files out as an .ESS to import into Illustrator
